Secure AWS S3 File Uploads in Next.js: Presigned URLs vs. Direct Uploads
Presigned PUT URLs and multipart uploads power the /drop feature on elangodev.com — no AWS keys in the browser, no files proxying through Vercel.

About this publication
I am Elango Ponnusamy, a Full Stack Engineer and Software Architect based in Tamil Nadu, India. Over the past five years I have designed, built, and shipped production web applications for startups and established teams — from customer-facing React interfaces to Node.js APIs, Supabase-backed data layers, and cloud deployments on AWS and Vercel.
My work centers on three principles: write code that is easy to maintain, ship features that perform under real traffic, and design interfaces that feel fast and intentional. I specialize in the React and Next.js ecosystem, TypeScript, REST and GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, and modern CSS. Whether the task is a greenfield SaaS product, a legacy migration, or a performance audit, I focus on measurable outcomes — shorter load times, cleaner architecture, and fewer production incidents.
This site is an engineering publication first. Start with the technical blog and engineering handbook— long-form writing on React patterns, Next.js deployment, database design, and web performance. Background and career details live on the about and author pages. I also publish open-source packages on NPM and keep transparent editorial standards for every article.
The engineering blog publishes long-form guides grounded in production work on this site and client projects. Recent topics include React Server Components and Server Actions in Next.js 19, fine-grained reactivity patterns that go beyond Context, Core Web Vitals optimization for INP and LCP, Supabase and PostgreSQL performance tuning, secure direct-to-S3 uploads from Next.js API routes, edge-first caching on Vercel, and TypeScript patterns for domain-driven type safety. Each article targets practitioners who need working examples, not generic tutorials copied from documentation.
The handbook complements the blog with structured explanations of foundational concepts — rendering strategies, API design, accessibility, security headers, and deployment trade-offs. Together, the blog and handbook provide enough original technical depth for engineers evaluating modern full-stack architecture decisions before they commit to a stack or hire a consultant.
Every article follows our editorial policy, which requires accuracy checks, working code references where applicable, and meaningful depth for technical guides. The author page documents my background, credentials, and areas of expertise. Privacy practices, cookie usage, Google Analytics, and Google AdSense advertising disclosures are described in our Privacy Policy and terms of service. For project inquiries, consulting requests, or collaboration, use the contact page or the form in the section below.
I am available for full-time roles, contract engagements, and technical consulting. If you need a senior engineer who can own a feature end-to-end — from database schema to deployment pipeline — reach out through the contact section below or visit the contact page. I respond to every serious inquiry within one business day.
